The first church on this spot dates back to the 12th century, but what you see today was mostly built later during the Gothic period. Over time, it became one of the key symbols of the city, closely tied to the Hobsburgs and the history of Vienna itself. A lot of important events happened here, including imperial ceremonies, weddings, and funerals.”
