Nasi Kandar Kudu Bin Abdul
★ 4.2restaurant
“one of the long standing favourite in the city nasi Kandar Kudu Bin Abdul get ready for a mountain of rice topped with all sorts of curries chicken, mutton, fish you name it! the real KL move is to order it 'banjir' that means your rice is gonna be completely flooded in that wet and rich curry it is bold, flavorful and gloriously messy this Indian-Malay hybrid is something KL just cannot live without the taste of nasi kandar is savory okay the savory it is it has curry taste and it's a bit spicy they also use the okra one of their signature dishes is the cuttlefish okay the cuttlefish egg it is delicate, and savory, chewy a little bit chewy”

Masjid Luang Kocha Itsahak
★ 4.7experience
“and if you want to see why this community settled here just step into this alley this is Masjid Luang Kocha Itsahak built over 100 years ago tucked just off Song Wat Road and look at it no dome no typical mosque silhouette instead European style columns and that striking yellow facade it started as a family mosque and eventually opened its doors to the wider community that kind of generosity shapes a place”

Pink Rabbit
★ 4.5cafe
“next you're just walking and then you see the window cakes just sitting there daring you to walk past well most people don't this is Pink Rabbit chill a bit lively perfect mid-exploration stop but the real reason you're here is this Toddy Palm Meringue Pie the top is meringue and inside is Toddy palm fruit and chocolate you got the sweet from the Meringue you got the sweet from the chocolate and it has this crunchy toddy Toddy Palm Fruit OK it's good unique combination every texture every flavor in one bite they've got plenty of other options too but if you're only picking one cake you already know”

Wat Koh
★ 4.3experience
“this is Wat Koh a Buddhist temple that's been here long before the street became what it is today the main hall is under renovation right now but you can still head up to the second floor to pray Art and Seada brought me to a shrine on the right side of the main hall a place locals come to pray this is the Mae Boon Ruen Shrine she's the spiritual centre here known for her meditation people come here for blessings and guidance but then look at this threads extend from her statue reaching beyond the building what starts here doesn't stay here it spreads it connects not decoration but intention and Wat Koh means island temple this area used to be surrounded by canals now it's surrounded by the city but when you are inside the city just fades away here's something most people don't notice about Song Wat”
Casa Formosa
★ 4.8cafe
“and then right in the middle of this street Casa Formosa a Taiwanese tea shop on an Indian gem street inside Chinatown that's Song Wat for you it's only been open about 2 years the owner Larry is a Taiwanese and you can tell he treats tea as a craft I'm not really a tea aficionado but this place is for people who care about depth layers, subtle flavors I went for the milk tea smooth slightly sweet nothing overpowering it's the kind of place you don't plan to find but once you do you tell people about it”
Gu Long Bao
★ 4.1restaurant
“on the way out of the mosque something stops you Gu Long Bao and yeah there's already a line take away only no tables no fuss just buns made fresh right in front of you steamed or roasted the crowd tells you everything for the buns my favorite is the taro I went for a set Thai milk tea and Siu Mai 160 baht what I like here is the condiments fried garlic soy sauce chili oil it is a bit savory this is a good appetizer classic siu mai flavors and the milk tea pairs better than you'd expect cool and slightly sweet to balance it out and it is perfect timing because what's coming next you'll want a bit of room for it”
Urai Braised Goose
★ 4.3restaurant
“okay this is the one Urai braised goose Michelin recognized you show up at peak lunch without a plan you'll be waiting for a while here's what you do grab your queue number first lock it in and that Siu Mai we just had not random that's the move get your number grab a snack come back for your call the street feeds you while you wait Teochew-style braised goose look at that tender juicy broth deep and aromatic you can taste the patience in it I think you can really taste the herbal herbal flavor of the braised goose the meat is not really gamey yeah the meat is tender it's good slightly savory slightly sweet one thing they sell out fast check the timing plan ahead this is your Song Wat lunch”
Ega Lab
★ 4.0restaurant
“now if goose isn't your thing there's another option E-ga Lab more on the premium side focus on authentic Thai cooking the menu leans ala carte so it's better if you're sharing I tried their crispy noodles it is sweet and sour and crunchy because of the crispy noodles it's too sweet and too sour at the same time it is a very unique dish I've never seen this one on its own it's a bit intense but with the vegetables it balances out cool atmosphere good music relaxed vibe more of a place to sit and take your time so goose if you want the icon E-ga Lab if you want something more relax and shareable”
PLAY ART HOUSE
★ 4.7experience
“after all that heat the crowds the food you kind of need this this is play art house and the moment you step in everything slows down it's not big it's clean and calm when I was here they had an exhibition about living in a new city a Thai artist based in Melbourne that feeling of being somewhere unfamiliar and slowly finding your place in the new city each month a different local artist takes over the space it doesn't matter if you are into art or you just came in to cool off this is what Song Wat does really well an art space right on the street where people actually walk in”
Arteasia Desserts & Cafe
★ 4.9cafe
“our first dessert stop Arteasia Desserts and Cafe and this is a proper tea time experience we went for the scone tasting set 400 baht for seven handcrafted flavors each one a little different a little surprise now in front of me is seven different scones okay this is a flavor explosion waiting to happen my favorite the two faced mango green mango chili salt mango pandan sticky rice this one is a mix of savory and sweet also spicy this one is very interesting I didn't expect that but it works and to drink pineapple coconut milk with a tiny pineapple tart on top oh come on kind of like a pina colada just without the rum perfect for the afternoon we also had the Banoffee fresh banana rich toffee simple done really well this place is doing something special Thai flavors in a European format that's Arteasia”
