Hin Ta Hin Yai
★ 4.2experience
“First, you need to head to Hin Ta Hin Yai with the gigantic boulders. Look for the legendary Grandfather and Grandmother Rocks. They are shaped by the sea and known for their resemblance, and they are part of local folklore.”
Silver Beach
★ 4.3outdoor adventure
“Then there is Silver Beach on the east of the island, and this is the one that steals the show. It is small, calm, and unbelievably clear. This is the kind of place that you want to stay all day and you will not realise how fast the time passes. Definitely get one of the massages that overlooks the water because it is incredible.”
Lamai Beach
★ 4.3outdoor adventure
“And then lastly, Lamai Beach was one of our favourites on the island. This is actually where we spent most of our time. It is away from all of the chaotic partying crowds. The accommodation was good and the water was so still and really clear.”
Tarnim Magic Garden
★ 4.4experience
“After your visit to the waterfall, I highly recommend visiting the Magic Garden. This is one of the most unique spots on the island, and it is around £2 to enter. It is a small garden tucked deep into the jungle, filled with stone statues, carvings, and little streams running through the trees. The story goes that a local farmer began building it decades ago as a personal project, and over time, he turned it into this quiet, almost forgotten place. You can walk slowly through, listen to the sound of the water, and take a break from the heat and the noise of the coast. It is one of the places that shows you a different side of Koh Samui. It is more local, more reflective, and completely worth the detour.”
Red Temple
★ 4.6experience
“Just up the coast is the Red Temple. This is carved entirely from red clay. It is one of the most beautiful temples on the island and it is super unique. I have not come across another temple in all of Thailand like it. Walk slowly and take it all in. This is the quieter side of Koh Samui.”
Fisherman’s Village
★ 4.4shopping
“Fisherman’s Village in Bophut is one of the best places to spend an evening on the island. The market runs a few nights a week, usually on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. As the sun sets, the whole area lights up with music, stalls, and beachside energy. It is not just about shopping or food here. It is the atmosphere that makes it so special.”
Coco Tam’s
★ 4.4bar
“The most popular spot is Coco Tam’s Beach Club. It has one of the island’s most impressive fire shows and it is worth planning your evening around it. The show usually starts after sunset at 7:15 pm, with another one again at 9:00 pm. It draws a big crowd, so book early because it does get very busy. Even if you do not stay long, it is worth coming for the show and the atmosphere once the fire starts.”
Lamai night market
★ 4.3shopping
“There are loads of night markets dotted around the island, and we usually ended up at the Lamai night market. Honestly, the food is incredible, and make sure you try the mango sticky rice.”
Na Muang Waterfall 2
★ 4.2outdoor adventure
“Then you have to head to Na Muang Waterfall 2. We are on our way to Na Muang 2, also known as the second waterfall. It is wild, super lush, and perfect for cooling off after a hot day. You can swim right at the base and listen to the water crash through the rocks, or you can climb a little higher to find some unique spots.”
Overlap Stone
★ 3.6outdoor adventure
“Next, you need to chase some of Koh Samui’s best viewpoints. This is the Overlap Stone. Today we are hiking to Overlap Stone 2. It is a steep little climb, but when you reach the top, the entire world opens up. The views are incredible.”
Pig Island
★ 3.3day trip
“If you want a day trip that feels a little bit different, take a short boat ride out to Pig Island, also known as Koh Madsum. It is small, quiet, and exactly what it sounds like, a beach where pigs wander around freely. The water is super clear, the sand is soft, and the atmosphere is relaxed and easy-going. You can spend a couple of hours here swimming, feeding the pigs, and just taking it slow. There are a few beach bars on the island, so food and drinks are available, and some tours even include dinner. Most trips start from around 600 baht, and you can buy food to feed the pigs for around 50 baht, which is honestly half the fun. This is not a high-energy excursion. It is more of a laid-back, light-hearted way to spend the day, and it is definitely something you do not see everywhere.”
7-Eleven
★ 2.7shopping
“Lastly, the unsung hero of Thai travel is 7-Eleven. It is not glamorous, but it has everything you need when you are on the go. A toasted sandwich and an iced coffee for breakfast just hits differently. Trust me, it is amazing.”
